Breath of Fire
What is Breath of Fire?
This is a variaiton of an ancient breathwork technique used by Tibetan buddhist monks, known as Tummo. The same source that inspired the breathing exercises in the Wim Hof method.
This breathwork stokes your inner fire, stimulating your sympathetic nervous system. By deliberately deliberately exposing ourselves to a strong, brief period of stress, we elicit a positive stress response in the body.
This helps to condition the body, so that our baseline stress levels become lower. And when we are faced with future stressors, we are able to tackle them with greater resilience, in a controlled manner.
Important note: this technique is not advisable for anyone who suffers from chronic heart conditions, epilepsy, asthma attacks or panic attacks.
Step by step instructions (link to video at the bottom):
Strong, full, deep inhale - through nose or mouth
Strong, full, deep exhale - through nose or mouth
Repeat for 30 rounds
Take a deep breath, fully in. And then hold your breath for 30 seconds
