Why breathing?

Why do I need to learn how to breathe? I’ve been breathing all my life”.

Excellent point, and not a wrong one either.

Breathing is an unconscious, mindless act, that just.. happens, to all of us. Something we take for granted, only until we’re forced to acknowledge it.

But only through acknowledgement, can we fully understand the true power of our breath. How it deeply intertwines with every process in the body. Regulating our nervous system, immune system, hormones, brainwaves… the breath does it all and more.

It makes perfect sense, that if breathing isn't optimal, health won’t be either.

In the time it’s taken you to read this far, you have already taken about 10 breaths. At that pace, you’ll hit 25,000 breaths by the end of today alone.

Imagine doing anything else that many times! For example, if you were to practice your tennis serve 25,000 times. Through sheer volume alone, it would become completely automatic, a deeply ingrained habit.

Now, imagine (hypothetically) doing that in just 24 hours. And then repeating that every, single day.

The unbridled power of repitition, enforces behaviours to the extent that they become subconscious.

It’s no surprise then, that when bad breathing habits are left unchecked, they become the default.

Similarly, if we instill healthy breathing patterns, they very quickly enforced, encouraging even more healthy breathing.

This is where breathwork comes in.

Breathwork: the art of breathing intentionally, to achieve altered states of being.

Simply by taking conscious control of the unconscious process of breathing, we trigger a plethora of physical and mental ransformations throughout the body.

Using the right breathwork techniques, and with consistent practice, these transformations carry over into our everyday lives, not just during our practice.

We can break free from these bad habits, unhealthy patterns, and even reverse a lifetime of poor breathing habits.

But why stop there?

Your breathing offers a gateway to so much more. States of hyperfocus, deep relaxation, the absence of stress. We can tap into expanded states of awareness, and reach states of ecstacy on command.

These concepts are nothing new. Yogis have harnessed the power of the breath for thousands of years. They knew, even all those years ago - mastering the breath, is the key to unlocking our true potential.

An eternity later, modern science is finally catching up. Better late than never!

Don’t be late, jump in now, and let’s explore the breath together ✌️
